Penelope received a Hero gift package as part of Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program. She has a military parent who is currently deployed, and Kids Wish Network is grateful to honor her family for their service and sacrifices.

Tristan is nothing short of a Hero. At such a young age, he has shown resilience, strength, and bravery beyond his years. He has undergone three surgeries, multiple IVs, x-rays, CT scans, picc line placement, and multiple days in the hospital. “He faced every procedure with a brave heart,” said his child life specialist. Tristan is a kid with grit and determination. He is a kind and considerate soul, always looking out for others and offering help when needed. Tristan is a loyal and caring friend, always making sure those around him feel valued and included. His bravery is truly inspiring. His big heart is what makes him Tristan. 

Mariah and her family came to Shriners looking for a second opinion on her leg length discrepancy. She was expecting to hear she could have a lengthening surgery, but instead learned that an amputation below the knee would be the most beneficial. It was shocking to hear and a big decision for her family. After several months, they decided to proceed with the amputation. Mariah lives three hours from the hospital, and yet comes to every appointment with a positive attitude. She is learning how to live her new normal, and is currently getting fitted for her first prosthetic.

Kaisen was very brave during his hospital stay, and listened to the RNs regarding his plan of care so he could feel better. He also coped with a tooth removal, and being treated for an infection that lasted several days. Kaisen additionally showed dedication in finishing his sticker chart so he could win a fun prize. Despite having additional personal challenges that made coping more difficult, he shined as an exemplary patient throughout his hospitalization.

Alyson was recently diagnosed with a brain aneurysm that required emergency attention. She needed brain surgery, and underwent a lengthy hospitalization. This sudden health battle not only rocked her world, but those who love her.

Addison started Miles of Many Smiles in the fourth grade after finding out about a classmate’s distressing situation. Her empathy sparked an idea to create smile bags for authorities that would bring comfort and happiness to kids in times of trauma. It’s since turned into an amazing organization that has now assisted dozens of police departments throughout Indiana and Illinois. Addison not only runs this organization, but she and her sister have also currently raised over $45,000 doing fundraisers for fire departments, as well as helping to bring K9 officers to local police departments. Addison also volunteers for a foundation that helps disabled students participate in athletic events.

Both LeAni and Mason have been so understanding and supportive of their mom as she continues to navigate her cancer journey.

LeAni is a natural born leader. When her mom isn’t home, she steps up as her substitute. She also goes out of her way to help her brother with his homework and keep him on track. LeAni doesn’t wait around for people to do things for her. If something needs to be done, she does it. She also looks for any opportunity to help at school, and is like everyone’s big sister/mom. 

Lyla was incredibly brave during her hospital stay! There were a lot of uncertainties and many procedures, but she overcome each one. From pokes, to imaging, and a lumbar puncture, Lyla was so strong!

She is always smiling! Even when things are hard, Lyla pushed herself to reach new goals. “We are so proud of her hard work," said her Child Life Specialist Shannon Kaufmann at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She nominated Jordyn, and Kids Wish Network is pleased to reward her as a Hero of the Month.

Derek has shown incredible bravery and strength as our family navigates the profound grief of losing his 11-year-old brother. Throughout the medical challenges, he remained resilient, often offering comfort to our family during the most emotional moments. His courage has been truly remarkable. “Derek is a hero in every sense of the word for the way he faced these hardships with such grace and heart,” said his aunt who nominated him for Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program. “Derek has lost his best friend and brother, yet somehow, he has found the strength to hold it all together.”

Khloé, Kameron, Kayden, Noah and Naomi are siblings coping with the tragic loss of their big sister. While Khloé is the youngest, she has shown compassion and empathy for her mother. When her mom cries, she comforts her and reassures her everything will be alright.

Siblings Katie and Evan have been so supportive of their mom throughout her cancer journey. Katie was almost 3 when I was diagnosed with cancer.

Jeremiah is coping with the devastating loss of his sister from cancer. He helped his sister however he could, bringing her clothes to wear, carrying her bookbag, and even making her food when she was too weak after her chemotherapy treatments.

Since my diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Violet has stood strong. She is quick to help me, always telling me to get some rest. “She’s my rock, and has a heart of gold,” said her mom. She is always willing to help others.

“Sawyer’s bright attitude with new scan tests makes him a Hero!” said his Child Life Specialist Amanda Arnold who nominated him. Kids Wish Network is happy to reward Sawyer as one of its monthly Heroes.

Maleeka and Taye’s parents are inspired by their courage and strength. Kids Wish Network honored the siblings through its Hero of the Month program, sending them each a special gift package to help brighten their days.

Madilynn has had multiple health issues since birth, yet she is always smiling, has the brightest spirit, and takes everything thrown her way with such bravery and courage.

“Lana is my Hero for everything she’s been through and the struggles she faces every day while still being able to smile,” said her mom who nominated her.

Kelvin has always said he wanted to help a homeless person, so he quickly took action when he saw someone who appeared in need. He noticed a man in mismatched clothes standing in front of a coffee shop with his eyes closed. Kelvin approached him and said, “Excuse me sir, are you homeless? Because if you are, here's a dollar.” Kelvin offered the man the only money he had. It was the dollar that he just earned for good grades.

Jazmine has been healing after the loss of her mom. Despite everything she’s been through, she is mature beyond her years, and a shining role model for others. Jazmine is a caretaker and protector, and loves nurturing all the younger children at family gatherings.
