Hero Powers Through Adversity with Courage and a Smile

Asher is vibrant and energetic, and doesn’t let anything slow him down. He was diagnosed prenatally with a unilateral cleft lip and palate. Asher began his journey with strength and resilience before he was even born.

At just 3 months old, he underwent his first surgery to begin the cleft repair process. His first year was filled with big milestones and challenges, including three surgeries before his first birthday. Over the next few years, Asher tackled five years of speech therapy, two dental surgeries, and a major bone graft surgery at age 9. That surgery came with some tough restrictions including three weeks of a soft food only diet, and six weeks off from playing, definitely not easy for a kid who’s always on the move! But Asher powered through it all with courage and a smile. So far he’s sported two sets of braces, and while he's currently on a break, round three is just around the corner next year. Asher’s journey hasn’t been easy, but his spirit is unstoppable. He continues to face each new chapter with determination, strength, and a heart full of adventure.

He was nominated by his mom, and Kids Wish Network awarded Asher a special gift package to celebrate him as a Hero of the Month. “Asher received his package and was so excited,” said his mom. “His eyes popped out when he saw the amount of the gift card!” So far he's bought a Spiderman video game and Ohio State Football gear, and has been looking at an electric bike. He’s been having so much fun shopping for his favorite things.
