Hero Brings Comfort While Bravely Struggling Through Family Tragedy and Grief

Derek has shown incredible bravery and strength as our family navigates the profound grief of losing his 11-year-old brother. Throughout the medical challenges, he remained resilient, often offering comfort to our family during the most emotional moments. His courage has been truly remarkable. “Derek is a hero in every sense of the word for the way he faced these hardships with such grace and heart,” said his aunt who nominated him for Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program. “Derek has lost his best friend and brother, yet somehow, he has found the strength to hold it all together.”

Kids Wish Network is grateful to honor Derek with its special Hero gift package. He had the biggest smile when he received it, and used his gifted retail gift card to shop for several LEGO sets. His family said he plays with them daily, and has more of his joy back. Derek also kindly purchased a LEGO set for his friend.

Through the generosity of Merlin’s Magic Wand, his family additionally enjoyed a fun and memorable day of togetherness at LEGOLAND.
