***Hero of the Month*** Unstoppable Strength: Amirah’s Journey Beyond Limits

Amirah was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was six months old. Her condition affects her motor skills, and doctors weren’t sure she’d ever be able to walk. She started physical and occupational therapies immediately after her diagnosis and hasn’t stopped since. She was able to learn how to walk, but it wasn’t easy for her. Amiyah had to wear leg braces, and her gait was abnormal. By the time she was in middle school, she was using a walker to get around, and was eventually pulled from school because of bullying. Her multiple therapy programs also made attendance difficult.

In the past year, Amirah had a double tibial surgery to correct the positioning of her legs. Both of her tibia bones were broken and placed into position with screws and plates. She kept an incredible attitude throughout all of her challenges, and even when she was in pain, she always remained positive.

“She is a Hero to me because of how she handles all the challenges she has faced and continues to face,” said her mom. “There is never a limit that she places on herself.”

Kids Wish Network honored Amirah as a Hero of the Month. When her special gift package arrived, she was beyond excited opening it. She pulled out an adorable bear, a T-shirt which she immediately put on, and when she saw the amount of the gift card, her mom said, “Let’s just say I don’t think her smile could have gotten any bigger.”  She also loved being recognized. “My daughter has been through so much, and it’s just absolutely refreshing to have a break in the chaos. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
