Thunder Can Now Shop for All the Adored Toys He’s Been Longing For

North Dakota – Thunder’s journey began when he was just two years old, after what first appeared to be a simple childhood illness. He suddenly stopped eating and drinking, and a frightening trip to the emergency room followed. After initially thinking it was a cold or allergies, Thunder’s condition quickly worsened. Just days later, he experienced a grand mal seizure that changed his family’s life forever. His mother knew then that something far more serious was happening. After years of doctor visits, countless tests, and uncertainty, Thunder was finally diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia secondary to NUP-14 related encephalopathy. In that moment, his family felt lost and overwhelmed, and were preparing for the worst, trying to find a “new normal” with so many unknowns. 

Despite the challenges he faces, Thunder continues to show remarkable strength. He is homeschooled to protect his health and avoid exposure to germs, as even a simple fever can trigger seizures. Though his world is smaller than most children his age, his imagination and love for play know no limits. Thunder finds joy in toy cars, monster trucks, action figures, and creative adventures that allow him to escape the hardships of daily life and simply be a kid. 

Thunder’s heartfelt wish was to receive toys that would fuel his imagination—especially a Batmobile, monster trucks, Nerf guns, and a toy sword. To make this possible, Kids Wish Network purchased Thunder a generous Walmart gift card, giving him the freedom to choose the toys he loves most. Shopping for his adored toys will bring excitement and happiness to Thunder and his family, offering moments of joy and normalcy during an otherwise challenging journey. This wish was more than just toys—it was a reminder that even in the midst of uncertainty, Thunder is surrounded by hope, love, and the magic of being a child.
