“The Best Time of His Life”: Itzae’s Wish in Anaheim

Anaheim, California – Itzae had faced more challenges in a year than many do in a lifetime. After months of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, his body was tired, but his spirit was unshaken. When his wish to visit Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood was granted, a new kind of hope filled the air—one shaped like magic, color, and possibility.

This trip was full of firsts, starting the moment Itzae stepped onto an airplane for the first time. Wide-eyed and buzzing with excitement, he even got to meet the pilots and proudly received his first set of wings. It was the perfect start to a dream unfolding before him.

Once in Los Angeles, Itzae and his family jumped right into the adventure. At Disneyland and California Adventure, he discovered new worlds—flying through Spider-Man’s web-swinging escapades, giggling on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and standing tall beside the towering Transformers at Universal Studios. “I got to meet Minnie Mouse, and Optimus Prime and Bumblebee,” said Itzae, his smile stretching as bright as the park lights.

Throughout the trip, cast members and staff welcomed him like a hero. As soon as they learned he was a wish kid, hands rose for high-fives, and paths cleared so he could move to the front of the line. One moment that stayed in his heart was the animation class he’d been eager to try. Despite the long line, a cast member gently ushered him forward. “Without our special pass we wouldn't have made it,” his mom, Lesley, shared with gratitude.

Even while still experiencing pain from his medical procedures, Itzae pushed forward with determination and awe. Every step felt like he was reclaiming a little piece of childhood that leukemia had tried to take away.

One of the most memorable moments came during dinner at the Anaheim White House. The restaurant sponsored his family’s dining and made the evening extraordinary with dinosaur balloons, a beautifully decorated table, and an outpouring of kindness. The owner even surprised Itzae with gifts: toy dinosaurs, a Minecraft coloring book, and twistable crayons. Then came the extravagant dessert tower—tiny dinosaurs tucked among pastries and chocolate-covered strawberries—creating a moment of pure joy that lit up the whole family. Restaurants Benihana and The Girl & The Chicken also offered their support as wish sponsors.

Clementine Hotel & Suites Anaheim provided accommodations and a welcoming stay. Their hot tub became a soothing retreat for Itzae’s sore muscles. Each night brought rest, and the comfort of knowing he was somewhere safe, cherished, and celebrated.

When the trip ended, the magic lingered. Itzae cried on their first day home—not tears of sadness, but of overwhelming gratitude. “He said he had the best time of his life,” his mom shared. “Even though he had all the symptoms he had, he still considers it one of the best times of his life. Thank you so much. We really appreciate everybody who contributed to his wish.”

For a family who had weathered storm after storm—from the terrifying diagnosis, to a month-long hospital stay, to ongoing treatments—this wish became more than a getaway. It was a reminder that joy can still grow in the hardest moments, and that childhood wonder can shine through even the darkest clouds.

Most of all, it was a story of resilience—of a boy whose courage carried him through pain, and whose smile lit up every place he visited. A story of hope. A story of love. A story of a wish fulfilled.
