Minecraft Fan Gets the Surprise of a Lifetime with a Call from Jack Black

David thought he was sitting down for a simple video call.

The 7-year-old from Xenia, Ohio, was joined by his family. His sister Nicole sat nearby, along with his mom, Melinda, and dad, Justin. Then, without warning, something unexpected happened.

A new face appeared on the Zoom call. “Hello, it’s me,” said Jack Black.

David’s quiet interview instantly turned into laughter, wide eyes, and pure surprise!

A Wish Comes to Life

David has been through more than most kids his age. While managing Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery (ARSA), he has undergone 19 surgeries and spends much of his time in medical appointments and recovery. During those long stretches, Minecraft has been one of his favorite escapes. A place where he can build freely, imagine boldly, and feel like himself.

When we asked David what he would wish for if he could have anything, he didn’t hesitate. He shouted, “I want a Minecraft wish!”

From that moment, Kids Wish Network set out to bring his biggest dream to life, planning an unforgettable experience inspired by his love for the Minecraft movie and his excitement to meet Jack Black.

As Wish Coordinator, Tambra quietly stepped off the call; Jack Black stayed on, greeting David and his family and immediately putting everyone at ease. What came next was a joyful back-and-forth that quickly filled the room with smiles and laughter.

Talking Minecraft, Creativity, and Big Ideas

Jack shared how he played Minecraft often while preparing for the movie, even spending time in his trailer building worlds so he could better understand the game. David lit up. When asked whether he preferred Survival or Creative mode, David answered without hesitation. Creative mode. Unlimited blocks. Unlimited imagination.

The two talked about building houses out of glass, enchanted armor, and favorite movie moments. David impressed Jack with his deep knowledge of the game and even sparked new ideas as they talked about what could happen next in a future Minecraft movie. Jack told David he loved the ideas and planned to share them with the director.

A Moment His Family Will Always Hold Onto

Throughout the call, Nicole watched her brother with a smile. Melinda and Justin sat close, taking in every second as David laughed, sang, and fully forgot about hospitals and treatments for a while.

Jack even broke into song, turning the moment into something joyful and lighthearted, feeling less like a celebrity appearance and more like a friend dropping in.

“Thank you for everything you have done for us,” David’s family shared afterward.

Why Wishes Matter

Moments like this do not change a diagnosis. But they do something just as powerful.

They give children joy. They give families memories. They give kids something bright to hold onto. David now has a memory that will stay with him forever. A surprise. A conversation. A moment when his favorite world came to life in the most unexpected way.

Many Thanks

Kids Wish Network could not have provided this wish to David without the help of the many supporters who believe in making wishes come true for kids who need hope.
