A Spideytastic Wish for Fellow Superhero

ORLANDO, Florida – Matthew found out his wish was coming true during a surprise celebration at The Big E Gaffney Family Entertainment Center. While sitting in their movie theater, the most thrilling preview appeared on the big screen: an image of Matthew dressed as his favorite character, Spider-Man, along with a special message announcing that Kids Wish Network was sending his family to Orlando for a theme park adventure!

Matthew was overjoyed and couldn’t wait. The celebration continued with a private viewing of the newest Spider-Man movie, plus bowling, pizza, refreshments, concession snacks, and games in the arcade. The Big E Gaffney generously donated this fun-filled event.

Kids Wish Network flew Matthew’s family to Orlando, where they visited Universal Studios and LEGOLAND. The highlight of the trip was Matthew’s meet-and-greet with Spider-Man at Universal. He loved having his photo taken with Spidey in front of the green screen and meeting all the superheroes. Spider-Man spent extra time talking with Matthew, encouraging him, and telling him he’s a superhero too. Both Spider-Man and another hero autographed a photo for him. Other memorable moments included the Spider-Man ride, the Hogwarts Express, and playing carnival games to win prizes. At LEGOLAND, Matthew enjoyed all the rides and attractions.

Matthew has hypogammaglobulinemia, a condition that affects his immune system’s ability to make antibodies and fight off infections. He receives infusions every four weeks through a port in his chest, along with other ongoing treatments. Despite these challenges, Matthew experienced so many incredible moments throughout his wish trip.

All of his restaurant sponsors treated the family with extra care and went above and beyond to make them feel special. Olive Garden provided dinner and thoughtfully gifted both Matthew and his brother presents personalized to their interests. Matthew’s mom raved about Benihana’s food and service, noting how accommodating the staff were. Chuy’s also created an amazing experience with delicious food and friendly staff who were wonderful with Matthew. These generous sponsors made the family’s meals truly memorable.

They also loved their stay at Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando International Drive South. Matthew especially enjoyed the pool and the Mickey and Minnie waffles for breakfast. The hotel provided adjoining rooms and even had a Spider-Man rotating projection lamp lit up in the second room, creating the perfect Spidey ambiance upon arrival. The family was gifted the lamp as a keepsake, along with a giant Disney box filled with snacks, drinks, a T-shirt, Spider-Man sunglasses, a mask, toy figurines, and more. The staff went all-in on Matthew’s favorite theme, making the stay unforgettable.

It was deeply meaningful for Matthew’s family to experience his wish together. They are profoundly grateful to everyone who went above and beyond to make him feel like a true superhero.

Many Thanks
