Atlas’ Wish Journey Brings Wonder, Characters, and Cherished Memories
Orlando, Florida – In his young life, Atlas has already faced more challenges than many people experience in a lifetime. Living with cystic fibrosis has shaped his world with daily treatments, doctor visits, and moments of uncertainty. But it has also revealed something remarkable: Atlas’ unshakable joy, curiosity, and love for magic.
His wish journey began close to home in Kentucky, where the La Grange Railroad Museum planned a special reveal just for him. When bad weather forced a last-minute change, the team didn’t let disappointment derail the moment. Instead, they created a surprise scavenger hunt throughout the museum, ending with a behind-the-scenes tour and the magical news that Atlas would soon be heading to Walt Disney World. What started as a rainy setback became an unforgettable adventure that perfectly matched his sense of wonder.
The biggest surprise, though, was still to come.
During the reveal, Atlas and his family took part in a Disney-themed scavenger hunt, fully believing a small toy was the prize waiting at the end. Instead, Atlas received a letter addressed just to him from Buzz Lightyear himself. As the message was read, staff shared the incredible news: Kids Wish Network was sending Atlas and his family to Disney World. The unexpected moment caught him completely off guard, filling the room with excitement, happy tears, and awe.
Once in Orlando, the magic continued. Atlas and his family stayed at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Orlando at Flamingo Crossings, where they were welcomed in extraordinary fashion. Their hotel room was decorated in a Spider-Man theme, complete with balloons and Atlas’ favorite snacks. Even more special, the family could watch Disney fireworks right from their room. The hotel’s general manager took time to get to know the family, take photos, and make sure every detail was perfect, even offering breakfast after service hours had ended.
At Disney World, Atlas experienced all four parks, but Magic Kingdom quickly stole his heart. He loved the kiddie rides and especially cherished meeting characters without long waits, thanks to special passes. “There were a few meet and greets where they took us through a back door and straight in,” his mom, Kristen, shared. “It enabled us to have more experiences with them.” When Atlas met Mickey Mouse, he gave him a big hug and proudly exclaimed, “I gave Minnie Mouse a kiss!”
The Toy Story characters brought some of the biggest reactions. “When he saw Woody, he lost his mind,” his mom said with a smile. “Mouth wide open—surprised and excited.” Atlas was equally thrilled to meet Jessie and Buzz Lightyear, moments filled with pure joy that his family will cherish forever.
Animal Kingdom brought a different kind of magic. Atlas loved seeing the animals, especially during the safari ride, where a giraffe casually walked right in front of their vehicle. He also delighted in the 3D Zootopia show and the excitement of Toy Story Land, including the Slinky Dog roller coaster.
Throughout the trip, the family also enjoyed visits to LongHorn Steakhouse, Ford’s Garage, and Lazy Dog, experiencing kindness from many staff members along the way.
For Atlas’ family, this wish meant more than just a vacation. With the ongoing demands of managing cystic fibrosis—daily breathing treatments, medications, therapies, and frequent medical care—it offered something priceless: time together without worry, moments of laughter without limits, and memories built on magic instead of medicine.
As the journey came to an end, Atlas’ mom expressed deep gratitude for the wish that brought her son so much happiness. For Atlas, Disney was not just a place. It was proof that even in the face of big challenges, dreams can be even bigger.
Many Thanks
