Nina Sansone’s sweetest wish was the ultimate mix of fun, creativity, and whimsy with renowned Pastry Chef and Food Network star Chef Duff Goldman. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, made her dream come true, flying Nina and her mom to Los Angeles for her colorful culinary adventure.

They were chauffeured by Top Shelf Concierge Services to Duff’s Cakemix, the celebrity chef’s do-it-yourself cake decorating studio. Goldman inspired Nina’s inner artist, providing personal instruction in selecting her cake canvas, frostings, fondants, candies, and sugar crafting tools. Nina, her mom, and Goldman decorated together becoming Team Duff, each creating their own edible masterpieces. Goldman’s “Bad Fish” design spoofed his naughty pet fish, and Nina’s was inspired by her dog Liam. “I loved working with fondant,” she said. “It was really fun.” Goldman gifted Nina a Cakemix apron, and her cake which she wasn’t leaving behind in L.A. “We took it home on the plane,” said her mom Rebekah. “It went through quite a journey.”

Nina suffers from ulcerative colitis, and her once-in-a-lifetime wish gave Nina something special to look forward to and a positive focus. “It’s made me a lot happier,” said Nina.

“My favorite part was seeing Nina with Duff while decorating her cake,” said her mom. “Duff also gave us big hugs… it felt like we were spending time with someone we knew. He was gracious and made sure Nina had a memorable visit.”

Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai said, “We’re so appreciative to Chef Duff Goldman for sharing his time, creativity, and kindness in giving Nina such a personalized and extraordinary experience.”

For Nina’s wish, they also enjoyed magical moments at Disneyland, a memorable stay at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort who surprised her with balloons and baking-themed gifts, and a finely crafted dinner at the Lazy Dog Restaurant.
