BOONSBORO, Md. (November 2019): Lucas Murdock loves history, especially studying World War II. In particular, the Navy has always enthralled him and multiple family members of his are veterans. Lucas suffers from autoimmune encephalitis, a condition that causes inflammation and damage to the brain as the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, will be making his dream come true.

Lucas received an invitation to attend Boonsboro High School’s annual Veteran’s Day ceremony, where Kids Wish Network revelaed he was going on a wish trip to Wilmington, North Carolina, to visit the historic USS North Carolina battleship. Local members of the American Legion Post 10 were there to participate, including Commander Gary Shank, who helped arrange the reveal with Kids Wish Network and Boonsboro mayor Howard Long was in attendance. After the ceremony, Lucas was invited to have lunch with local American Legion members and met multiple veterans,, including a WWII vet. Lucas was excited to spend time with them and can’t wait to tour the historic USS North Carolina battleship.

“We’re honored to provide Lucas with a patriotic wish that nurtures his interest in our nation’s history,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.

Anyone can become a wish granter and help provide memorable connections and opportunities. Medical professionals, family members, and others can also refer kids to receive hope-infusing wishes.

We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
