Chase’s Tropical Cruise

Chase with dolphin

“Swimming with the dolphin was the highlight for Chase”

In early 2013, Wish Kid Chase became violently ill during a basketball game. After a visit to his doctor, Chase was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyapathy, a life-threatening heart condition which prevents the heart from pumping correctly. In just a matter of days, Chase’s lungs began taking on fluid and all of his organs started to shut down. Doctors immediately started the process for a heart transplant; without a new heart, 12-year-old Chase would die.

Just a few months after his diagnosis, Chase underwent the long and dangerous surgery for a new heart. While his body accepted the new organ, his recovery process was slow. The task of simply walking to the car became the equivalent of running a marathon for Chase. As time progressed, Chase continued to regain stamina but still must take anti-rejection medications.

To help Chase celebrate his two-year heartiversary, Kids Wish Network granted his wish for a tropical cruise. Chase and his family spent four days on a fantastic Carnival Cruise complete with exciting excursions.

“Swimming with the dolphin was the highlight for Chase,” said his mom Renee. “We had a blast. I can honestly say we were spoiled thanks to Kids Wish Network.”

On behalf of Chase and his family, KWN would like to thank Access Line Transportation and Carnival Cruise Line for helping sponsor his wish.

Chase is doing well but will continue to see a cardiologist every three months for check-up appointments.
