It’s not every day you’re told your dream is coming true, so Hayden was super excited that he was going to Disneyland! Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, was flying his family to California for a memorable getaway to experience “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Shortly before their travels, the unthinkable happened. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a shutdown of theme parks and most everything throughout the country. It was so disappointing having everything unravel right before his big wish. But his sadness returned to joy when he found out that his dream was still coming true. Kids Wish gave him a special travel package, providing his family with airline credit from the original flight, and purchasing Hayden a generous Disney Gift card that can be used for anything in the parks, and a Hotels.com gift card. He and his family will have an amazing time when the theme parks reopen and they’re able to travel.
Hayden has struggled so much with his health. He has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a group of disorders that affect connective tissues supporting blood vessel walls, joints, skin, and other organs and tissues. His frequent headaches also turned out to be so much more. Testing revealed he additionally had Chiari malformation, and a rare genetic disorder Shprintzen-Goldberg syndrome, which caused the fusion of some of his skull’s bones. It was putting a lot of pressure on his brain, and he needed surgery to reshape his skull. His challenges continued finding out he had Celiac disease, and having to give up all the foods that he loved to accommodate his new strict diet. He’s worked very hard in his varied therapies.
“Hayden’s dream coming true will be a very meaningful time for his family to spend together,” said his Wish Coordinator Kim Kreiner.
