Mason loves adventure, being outdoors and spending time with family. He listed off so many reasons for wanting to visit Florida, so Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, sent Mason to his happy place – The Sunshine State!
Kids Wish flew Mason and his family to Florida for his sunny adventure. They stayed at the luxurious Marriot Tampa Westshore who had a surprise waiting for him. When he opened the door to his hotel room, he was greeted with mylar balloons that spelled out his name and a treasure chest filled with candy, a Patriot’s helmet representing his favorite team, and footballs. He also loved the resort’s pool.
The next day they ventured to Busch Gardens and explored the rides, shows and animals. They later enjoyed a memorable dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse, who also kindly gifted Mason a basketball, backpack, and LongHorn swag.
During his wish, they also went to Universal Studios and felt extra special getting Express passes to avoid waiting in any lines. Dinner was a tropical escape at Bahama Breeze.
Signs of Mason’s medical condition began as migraines, vision difficulties and seizures. Extensive testing finally revealed he had Chiari malformation, a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. He’s undergone a decompression surgery.
“Florida is so magical for kids with so many amazing places to visit,” said his Wish Coordinator Melissa Calabrese.
