Wish Kid McKenzie Heads to the Beaches of Clearwater/St. Petersburg for Her Wish

“She felt pampered and spoiled on her wish”

Severe mood swings and frequent trips to the bathroom alerted McKenzie’s mom that something was very wrong with her daughter’s health. At the age of 6, little McKenzie was diagnosed as having a pre – metabolic disorder and has struggled to regulate her blood sugar levels ever since. McKenzie’s glucose levels are always either way too high, making her hyperglycemic, or way too low, making her hypoglycemic. She cannot ever seem to find a happy medium and because of that, McKenzie is forced to miss a lot of school.

The overwhelming sense of fatigue is a constant battle. Due to her condition, McKenzie has to check her blood sugar up to 10 times a day and needs insulin via shots or a pump up to 12 times a day. A social butterfly and the class clown, McKenzie’s friendly and funny personality are what make her unique. Her favorite sport is volleyball and she really enjoys being in the water.

Kids Wish Network wanted to grant McKenzie’s wish and send her on the trip of-a-lifetime to some of the best beaches in Florida. Many generous donors and sponsors worked with Kids Wish Network to make McKenzie’s dream a reality as she was sent to St. Petersburg and Clearwater Beach, Florida for her forever wish.

During her wish, McKenzie and her family stayed at the beach front Plaza Beach Hotel in St. Petersburg and traveled around the area in a sleek rental car provided by National Rental Car. In addition to digging her toes in the sands of St. Petersburg/ Clearwater beach, McKenzie was also treated to several fun-filled activities including riding the high seas on Captain Memo’s Pirate Ship tours, attacking the obstacle course at Tradewinds Islands Resort/ Floating Water Park, stopping by Ron Jon Surf Shop for some personalized goodies, experiencing the thrills of Busch Gardens/ Adventure Island, and getting close encounters with some world famous dolphins at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The family was also provided wonderful meals throughout the wish courtesy of The Sea Porch, Windward Bar & Grill, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.

McKenzie thoroughly enjoyed meeting the star of the movie, Dolphin Tale 2, a dolphin named Hope at the Clearwater Aquarium. According to McKenzie, this was her “most favorite attraction for her wish!” Tears ran down McKenzie’s mother Melissa’s face as she watched her daughter experience the up close encounter with the dolphins. Melissa was grateful that Kids Wish Network granted this wish for her daughter, and was elated to see the smile on McKenzie’s face.
