When her daughter was first born, Maddy’s mom was heartbroken to find out that her sweet baby girl was suffering from kidney reflux. Serious complications include permanent kidney scarring and eventual kidney failure. To correct the malformation, Maddy had surgery at the tender age of two. It was only a few years later that Maddy was diagnosed with a life threatening condition, followed by a five day hospital stay to begin insulin treatments via an IV drip and an assortment of medications to regulate her glucose levels.
It seemed just as Maddy and her family had acclimated to her life-threatening illness, they were thrown another curveball. They learned that Maddy also has an autoimmune disorder and gastroparesis which requires antibiotics four times a day.
At eight years old, Maddy is a strong-willed “firecracker.” Watching Matilda and playing with her American girl dolls are her favorite activities. She has an insatiable sweet tooth that has to be kept in check; however, that doesn’t stop Maddy from daydreaming of having her very own unlimited supply of cupcakes, a tower of chocolate, and vanilla confections.
When Kids Wish Network learned that Maddy wanted to know what it would be like to be Cinderella for a day, we knew we had to make her Princess for a Day.
Maddy and her family were guests at the luxurious Omni San Francisco hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. She got up close and personal with famous celebrity, sporting and historical wax figures at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf and explored the California Academy of Sciences, a natural history museum housing over 26 million specimens.
Maddy enjoyed dinners at Pompei’s Grotto, a family-fun restaurant also in Fisherman’s Wharf, Bob’s Steak & Chop House, located within the Omni, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.
A princess deserves her own modern day carriage, so MA Limousine & Transportation Worldwide drove Maddy to her “castle” Villa Montalvo. Maddy was presented to the kind staff at Montalvo in a beautiful dress fit for a princess, compliments of Bella Bridesmaids of San Francisco. A delicious lunch at the Villa Montalvo was served by Bush Catering. Before Princess Maddy flew home the next day, she stopped at the San Francisco Zoo for a special koala encounter.
