Nicoli loves being outside and exploring the woods for whatever interesting objects he can find. His rocks, glass bottles and an abandoned license plate are among his most prized treasures. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, purchased Nicoli a high-tech metal detector, carrying bag, finder’s pouch and sifting scoop to bring his treasure hunting to the next level!
Nicoli had no idea about his big surprise, and Village of Harrisonburg Mayor Michael Tubre and Catahoula Parish Sheriff Toney Edwards became a special part of the wish, sharing his exciting news. They personally visited Nicoli’s home and presented the extraordinary gift on behalf of Kids Wish Network.
Within a short amount of time, Nicoli already found his newest treasure, “a washer as big as my fist!” And he’s ambitious to find even more precious gems to add to his prized possessions. After learning his metal detector is waterproof, a downpour doesn’t even dampen his enthusiasm – the hardest part is convincing him to come inside long enough for the rain to stop.
Kids Wish Network also gave Nicoli a generous Walmart gift card, and is honoring him at his school with its Project Toy Drop program at Harrisonburg Elementary. New toys and educational supplies will be distributed to all the students grades K-12, and Mayor Tubre will be there to help celebrate and officially declare it “Nicoli Day”.
“We’re thrilled Nicoli has been so captivated by his new metal detector,” said Kids Wish Network Wish Manager Tambra Fulk. “We know it’ll bring him so many exciting adventures!”
He’s struggled with many health challenges since birth, undergoing his first surgery within the first months of his life. Nicoli was born with posterior urethral valves, a rare birth defect with obstructing flaps of tissue in his urethra. Since then, he’s also had a kidney removed, and continues to have additional health complications.
