Reece is a peppy little girl that loves football and Disney. Her favorite team is the Oklahoma State Cowboys – she especially loves the cheerleaders and their mascot Pistol Pete. Reece was born with spina bifida, a defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly. She was also born with Chiari malformation, a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, made her cheerful dream come true and more.
Reece’s wish began at Boone Pickens Stadium. Her family was warmly welcomed and escorted across the field to the team room where members of the Oklahoma State Cowboys cheerleaders, pom squad and Pistol Pete were all waiting to surprise Reece. They gave her a Hug-O bear sporting an OSU shirt from Kids Wish Network, and also their own gifts… pom poms, a megaphone signed by everyone at the event, and an orange handkerchief from Pistol Pete. And there was another magical surprise for Reece… signs and enthusiasm revealed that Kids Wish Network was sending her to Disney World!
After the big reveal, they made their way onto the field. Reece felt so special seeing her name displayed on a jumbo video board, and the fun continued with the day’s game. Oklahoma State University provided her family with amazing seats in front of the cheerleaders, and Pistol Pete kept Reese smiling, waving and blowing kisses at her throughout the game.
“It was all overwhelming in a great way,” said Reece’s mom Danay. “Reece was over the moon excited.”
“Thank you to Oklahoma State University for helping to make Reece’s wish an experience that she and her family will always cherish,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
