Mazie Will ‘Forever’ Remember ‘These Days’ with Rascal Flatts

“I’m so thankful, and it means more than you could ever imagine. To see the smile on her face and see her light up was priceless.”

Mazie was chronically sick and experiencing fatigue and frequent headaches. Not all of her conditions were discovered at once. Testing first revealed Chiari malformation, a condition in which brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. It was also discovered that she has epilepsy, a group of related disorders characterized by a tendency for recurrent seizures. The following year she was also diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a group of inherited disorders that affect the connective tissues — primarily skin, joints and blood vessel walls. She’s undergone surgery, ongoing physical therapy and needs medication.

Mazie loves country music and wanted to experience Nashville. Kids Wish Network was instrumental in making sure her wish went above and beyond her melodious dreams.

Kids Wish Network flew Mazie’s family to Nashville for her star-studded Music City experience. They first settled in at the beautiful Noelle, Nashville, a Tribute Hotel, located in the heart of downtown. The family rested up for her great country adventure the following day.

Mazie’s grand day finally arrived. They had a memorable dinner at the Rainforest Café, being seated right in front of the elephant where Mazie could enjoy the animatronic animals in the rainforest come to life. She and her brother were also graciously gifted a bag filled with toys and goodies as a memento of their special dining experience.

Mazie felt like a celebrity when Emerald Luxury Transportation arrived at their hotel with a Mercedes-Benz limousine. Her family was chauffeured to the Grand Ole Opry for her harmonious night of country singing superstars. They were escorted to seats with amazing views of the stage. The night’s performances included Rascal Flatts, Ashley McBryde, Tracy Lawrence, The Whites, Levi Hummon who performed his new song “Patient” before its official release, Dustin Lynch, Rita Wilson who was debuting at the Opry, and the Del McCoury Band.

A representative of the Grand Ole Opry escorted Mazie and her family backstage for an exclusive VIP tour. She saw the stars’ dressing rooms, and there were more surprises for Mazie… she spent time with country sensation Tim McGraw and his family who were visiting that night. Their tour continued, also meeting Levi Hummon. Then Mazie’s big moment arrived… she and her family had an exclusive invitation to hang out with Rascal Flatts in their dressing room. This amazing experience gave her a chance to get to know some of her favorite country idols. It was a magical night… Mazie and the stars were shining bright at the Grand Ole Opry.

“The wish was something really special for Mazie to always hold on to and remember,” said her mom Emily. “It shows her that her life doesn’t always have to be about hospital visits and doctors, and that there is a positive side to all of this. I’m so thankful, and it means more than you could ever imagine. To see the smile on her face and see her light up was priceless.”

The following day, their Nashville experience was also enhanced with a VIP tour at Madame Tussauds wax museum, visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and creating a cuddly friend at Build-A-Bear Workshop. Dinner was also a musical experience and rockin’ at the Hard Rock Café.

“It gave her a special time where she wasn’t worried about her illness,” said her dad Josh. “Where she could just have fun being a kid.”

Time has passed so quickly, it seems just like yesterday we were in wonderful Nashville Tennessee. As the Thanksgiving holiday has passed I couldn’t help to think of how Thankful I am. Our trip was a trip of a lifetime, one that we will never forget, one that memories were made that will last forever. Mazie’s wish trip was so much more than a wish trip, it was a recharge for us as a family, it was a time away from appointments, doctor’s, therapy appointments and phone calls.

This trip came at the most perfect time. We all needed a break, time away and most of all time as a family. From our fabulous hotel and their staff, to meals, limo rides and most of all The Grand Ole Opry was simply amazing. The outpouring from everyone that we met during our trip was like no other. Mazie was seen for the amazing kid that she is, not for her condition, but just as a really great kid. Seriously how many kids can say Tim Mcgraw said she was awesome and that she hung out with Rascal Flatts and even went on stage.

Our trip exceeded any expectations that we could have ever had. What Kids Wish Network does is something you can’t put a price on, it’s something so great it’s hard to put into words, but the word that comes to my mind over and over again is “Blessing” Because what you all do is truly a blessing to families. We as a family can’t ever thank you enough for our once in a lifetime adventure, and the amazing staff at Kids Wish Network along with all the sponsors are real life wish fairies, making wishes not only come true for kids but making wishes come true for us too…. by giving our children the ability to forget even for just a week about all the have dealt with and are facing in their young lives.
