Landon Gets an Elevated Tour of Boston with a Doors-off Helicopter Adventure

“My health issues were always restricting. I wasn’t able to travel much before and it was great getting away and not having to worry about my health.”

When Landon was a few months old, he started showing signs that there were underlying issues with his health. He was not growing at an expected rate and had developmental delays. Over the following months, issues persisted. Landon was also very lethargic and chronically sick.  Testing revealed he has Addison’s disease, an endocrine disorder where the adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones. Symptoms typically begin slowly and may include abdominal pain, weakness and weight loss.

Landon enjoys the outdoors and is very artistic. He is passionate about drawing, photography and especially taking photos with film-based cameras. Kids Wish Network focused on creating a picture-perfect wish… Landon would be experiencing Boston and taking his photography skills to new heights with a thrilling helicopter adventure and fun activities capturing the essence of the city.

Landon’s family lives a distance from the airport, so after traveling to Nashville, it was arranged for them to stay at the Wingate by Wyndham Nashville Airport to rest up for his elevated adventure. Kids Wish Network flew the family to Boston. They stayed at the beautiful Loew’s Boston Hotel who warmly welcomed Landon with a card signed by staff and a gift basket brimming with Boston Red Sox athletic wear, a book about Boston, snacks and sweets platter filled with goodies and candy. That evening, they had a memorable dinner at Union Oyster House, a Boston fixture, being America’s oldest restaurant. They were given special attention, and enjoyed exclusive seating upstairs in The Kennedy Booth, which was previously former president John F. Kennedy’s favorite table for dining.

Over the next couple of days, Landon and his family enjoyed the New England Aquarium, Institute of Contemporary Art – Boston, a private guided tour at the Museum of Fine Arts – Boston, dinner at The Yard House and lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, where he was also kindly gifted a chef’s coat embroidered with his name.

Then it was time to take off on an elevated adventure with Tuckamore Aviation’s helicopter tour. It was an exciting aerial experience, with a doors-off helicopter providing amazing photos and panoramic views of the city. “It was awesome! We were very close to the skyscrapers,” said Landon. “It gave me a cool and different perspective of the city of Boston.”

“The helicopter ride was special,” said his mom Lora Joy. “My favorite part was watching him experience it. The helicopter was amazing.”

Landon’s dream coming true gave him time away to focus on his passion for photography, happy times with his family and new experiences to further inspire his creativity. “My health issues were always restricting,” said Landon. “I wasn’t able to travel much before, and it was great getting away and not having to worry about my health. Thank you so much to everyone for my wish.”
