Trent stopped growing and began gaining weight at a very fast pace. Medical testing initially came back normal. Dietary changes didn’t help, and his parents had a deep feeling there was a bigger health issue. As his weight gain progressed, he was bullied relentlessly at school. Because of the bullying, Trent fell into a depression and didn’t want to go to school.
Trent saw various endocrinologists in and out of his local area and state. It was a challenging year of medical testing and procedures until it was finally discovered he had abnormally high levels of the hormone cortisol. He was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease.
He underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor, but there were surgical complications. Trent’s pituitary stalk was damaged causing diabetic insipidus. Due to the extent of his surgery, it was also a big disappointment that he could no longer play baseball, his favorite sport. Trent has been thought a lot and faced his health challenges with bravery and determination. Even struggling with hardships, he also maintained his compassion and empathy towards others, donating some of his unused toys to the local police department and helping the homeless with food and water.
Kids Wish Network is proud to honor Trent’s bravery and compassion, awarding him a Hero of the Month. Congratulations Trent!
