“The wish was more than I ever thought!”
On Christmas Day 2013, Dagen was diagnosed with a life threatening condition and spent his four-day holiday break in the hospital. Now, 14-year-old Dagen needs to check his blood sugar levels frequently and averages four shots of insulin each day. Because his levels are harder to regulate, doctors are screening the teen for possible insertion of an insulin pump to help keep the levels consistent.
Despite the difficult challenges of his condition, Dagen does his best to maintain a positive attitude and loves watching comedy shows and movies, especially starring actor Chris Pratt. Dagen has been a fan of Pratt’s since his days on “Parks and Recreation” and watches episodes whenever he’s feeling down. Being a young teen with a life-threatening illness is an extremely hard adjustment, so Kids Wish Network was happy to grant Dagen’s wish to bring a smile back to his face.
After Kids Wish Network reached out to Pratt, the celeb invited Dagen and his family to join him on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of “Jurassic World”!
“Words cannot express what a wonderful wish experience Dagen had,” says his mom Michele. “We had an amazing time in California and meeting Chris Pratt. Thank you so much for everything.”
Dagen, decked out in a tux sponsored by Friar Tux Shop, was more than excited to talk with Pratt, pose for photos, and have the star autograph some memorabilia. Dagen even gave the star some unforgettable t-shirts: a Kids Wish Network wish-granter shirt and his own “Dagen-Dia-Beat-This” design based on his illness.
“I had the time of my life,” says Dagen. “The wish was more than I ever thought; Chris Pratt was so cool!”
After walking the red carpet and meeting Pratt, Dagen and his family watched the film and stayed for the after-party; they were also treated to other California activities while on the wish.
