Cabela’s and Hilltop Mall Treat Wish Kid to a Grand Shopping Spree

“He wore a grin from ear to ear”

During his traumatic delivery, Cordell’s umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck twice. Immediately after his birth, doctors administered CPR, but it was unknown how long Cordell went without oxygen. His physicians were unable to give his frantic family any answers as to whether or not he would suffer from any long term complications.

At 2 months old, Cordell would stare off into space with a blank look on his face, seemingly unaware of the world around him. Cordell was having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Cordell takes medication to try to reduce seizure activity.

On top of everything, one day out of the blue when he was two years old, Cordell simply stopped talking. He didn’t speak again for another eight years. Cordell has been in occupational, physical, and speech therapies as he continues to try to manage his lifelong illness.

Cordell has a playful and funny personality, and he is known well for his joke-telling. He really enjoys shopping, especially for toys and stuffed animals.

Kids Wish Network wanted to give Cordell an over the top shopping spree, so it partnered with the folks at Cabela’s and Hilltop Mall who welcomed Cordell with a red carpet treatment.

Cordell began with a first-of-the-morning stop at the Kearney, NE, Cabela’s where he arrived in style in a Your Own Limousine, LLC. Cordell was invited to be part of the store’s team meeting and was made “Honorary Cabela’s Outfitter.” He was presented with his very own Cabela’s shirt with his name on the back (his favorite part of the day!). With the help of a personal shopper, Cordell made his well thought out choices of items with a generous Cabela’s gift card. Most of the gift card went towards the purchase of a tent, sleeping bag, other items for camping, and yes, stuffed animals.

He was also presented with a Samsung Tablet from AWireless Verizon and a remote helicopter from Kasan. Small Cake Cupcakery even made Cordell a cake in the form of a Nintendo game system with the Kids Wish Network logo on top.

Cordell’s mom, who said her son often speaks in monotone with little expression on his face had “a grin from ear to ear all day.” Both parents were overwhelmed with how everyone treated Cordell and his family.

Cordell’s day ended with dinner at Ruby Tuesdays and a limo ride back home.

According to his mom Jodi, Cordell is typically very monotone and shows little expression. During his shopping spree though, Cordell “was a horse of a different color,” said Jodi. “He was excited, and he had a grin on his face all day from ear to ear.” The once in a lifetime experience absolutely thrilled Cordell, and he could not have asked for a better wish.
