Morgan is a country boy through and through. He’s happiest when on his garden tractor and tending to his family’s yard… it takes his mind off the stresses of his life-threatening condition. Morgan loves everything about tractors, and expanding his toy tractor collection. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, sent him to John Deere Tractor Cab Assembly Operations in Waterloo, Iowa for a heavy-duty adventure.
Morgan found out about his wish during a visit to West Central Equipment, a John Deere retailer in Butler, Pennsylvania. Morgan asked, “Is dad buying a new tractor?” He was in for a surprise. Store Manager Gary Karns gifted him a bountiful gift basket filled with an extraordinary assortment of John Deere toys and merchandise. Karns then revealed that Morgan’s dream was coming true.
Kids Wish Network flew Morgan and his mom to Waterloo, Iowa. Like a true farmer, Morgan was awake at the crack of dawn on his big day – he was so excited and full of anticipation. Morgan and his mom visited the John Deere Tractor Plant to take an exclusive tour of the facility. He toured the factory floor on a tractor pulled wagon with his own personal tour guide educating him on John Deere’s history and how the equipment is produced. Morgan even saw some of the tractor engines up close, peeking under the hoods to see all the different interchangeable parts that are used to make the engine. His favorite part was helping a John Deere tractor inspector test a brand new John Deere 9R series tractor, a massive tractor that utilizes treads to pull itself through rugged farmland and terrain. He felt like a farm star… the employees lined up waving and cheering him on. John Deere also had so many gifts for Morgan, that they prearranged to have it all shipped to his home.
“My favorite part of his wish was seeing his face light up with excitement,” said Morgan’s mom Tammy.
During Morgan’s wish trip, the fun continued staying in historical accommodations at the Courtyard by Marriott Waterloo Cedar Falls, a former John Deere manufacturing building. They also had a memorable dinner at Starbeck’s Smokehouse who kindly gifted them tickets to a hockey game that night.
“Thank you to John Deere for going above and beyond in making Morgan’s wish an extraordinary experience that he’ll always remember,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
