A Tropical Prehistoric Wish for Dinosaur Fan

KANEOHE, Hawaii. (December 2019): Three-year-old Bentley loves everything about dinosaurs. He can name dozens of different types, but his favorite is the Tyrannosaurus rex. His favorite movies are the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World series, and he wished to ride in an authentic jeep from the movies and see dinosaurs. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, made his dream come true, flying his family to Oahu, Hawaii for a prehistoric wish of monstrous proportions.

Bentley’s wish began in Honolulu, where his family stayed at the tropical DoubleTree by Hilton on Waikiki Beach. They had spacious accommodations and felt the aloha spirit being welcomed with a cookie fruit platter mix and colorful leis. Bentley and his family traveled to Kualoa Ranch, a private nature reserve that was used during the filming of Jurassic Park. The family spent hours exploring the ranch and went on the Hollywood movie sites tour where Bentley got to see sets from Jurassic Park including the famous Jurassic Valley. Bentley saw replica dinosaur bones, movie set-pieces, and a fully functioning Jurassic Park jeep that he was thrilled to explore. “I loved seeing him so happy and the excitement on his face when he got to see the dinosaurs,” said his mom Sadie.

Bentley also toured a historic WWII army bunker built into the side of the mountain range where he explored the rooms filled with movie posters, props, and memorabilia from the plethora of movies filmed at Kualoa. He also saw authentic WWII artifacts and exhibits. His favorite part of the wish was seeing the massive Tyrannosaurus rex replica up close. That night the family had a delicious dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory on Oahu. Bentley suffers from biliary atresia, a disorder that prevents the liver from working correctly and can cause damage and scarring to the liver cells.

“Bentley’s wish was a fun way for him to further explore his love of dinosaurs and adventure,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following sponsors for making Bentley’s dreams become a reality:

  • Kualoa Ranch
  • DoubleTree Alana-Waikiki Beach
  • The Old Spaghetti Factory-Honolulu
