BOONSBORO, Md. (November 2019): Lucas Murdock loves history, especially studying World War II. He has always been enthralled by the navy and multiple family members of his are veterans. Lucas suffers from autoimmune encephalitis, a condition that causes the body’s immune system to mistakenly attack healthy brain cells, causing inflammation and damage. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, will be making his dream come true.
Lucas was invited to attend Boonsboro High School’s annual Veteran’s Day ceremony, where it was revealed to him that Kids Wish Network would be sending him on a wish trip to Wilmington, North Carolina to visit the historic USS North Carolina battleship. Local members of the American Legion Post 10 were there to participate, including Commander Gary Shank who helped arrange the reveal with Kids Wish Network, and Boonsboro mayor Howard Long was in attendance. After the ceremony, Lucas was invited to have lunch with local American Legion members, and met multiple veterans including a WWII vet. Lucas was excited to spend time with them, and can’t wait to tour the historic USS North Carolina battleship.
“We’re honored to provide Lucas with a patriotic wish that nurtures his interest of our nation’s history,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
