ORLANDO, Fla. (October 2019): Macy Teston loves Halloween, Disney and everything Tim Burton. Her favorite movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas, and she loves going to Disney theme parks. Macy has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic, progressive neuromuscular disorder that affects motor neurons and inhibits voluntary muscle movement. It can hinder a child’s ability to walk, stand, breathe and cause additional difficulties. She and her mom already had a trip planned to Disney in October, and Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, made Macy’s dream come true, purchasing tickets to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, and a generous Disney gift card that she can use for anything on Disney property. The ghoulish gala features her favorite Nightmare Before Christmas character Jack Skellington, the host of the special firework-filled celebration who will also be meeting with guests. When she found out about her wish, Macy said, “I’m exploding with happiness!” She and her mom were also given tickets for an additional day at Disney World.
Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai said, “We’re so glad we could give Macy special and memorable experiences with her mom that they’ll always cherish.”
