Kathleen Bowman Guest Blog: Wish Kid Sebastian’s Grandmother PT. 1

When Sebastian was having surgery on his spinal cord a couple years ago, I talked to a nurse about Kids Wish Network. I’m so grateful she brought this to my attention. This has been the greatest gift for Sebastian!!

Kimberly, Sebastian’s assigned Wish Coordinator called and set up a Skype interview with Sebastian. He was excited and a little shy. She asked him great questions as well as paying attention to his eclectic posters, toys and gadgets in his room to really get to know him and his interests. I’m so glad she got to know him and customized everything to things he would enjoy the most!

It started with the flight. The lady at the gate offered to have us load a few minutes before the rest of the passengers to meet the pilot. The pilot was so nice. He let Sebastian sit in his seat and then gifted him with some ‘Wings’. This was Sebastian’s first flight, and he wasn’t at all nervous. Once we landed at LAX, we had a shuttle waiting to take us to our hotel. The Sheraton Park Hotel at Anaheim Resort was wonderful! We were greeted with the kindest, most helpful staff. Sebastian also had a bonus surprise waiting for him in the room that was lovingly set up by the hotel staff.

The next morning we got an early start and headed over to Universal Studios Hollywood. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was the main attraction for Mr. Seabass! It lived up to everything he was expecting from the Frozen Butterbeer, lunch at Three Broomsticks, and the private wand ceremony at Ollivanders…all except for the fact that the wand only works in Harry Potter World! He still loves it and shows it off to everyone. He also LOVED the Water World show. This was already such a wonderful day, but we finished it off with a delicious dinner at Tony Roma’s. Our server Nancy was very gracious and Sebastian gifted her with a KWN bracelet.

Friday morning we headed over to Disneyland. This was going to be great!! I was anticipating that I may have to say no to several rides. But that was not the case. Absolutely everyone at Disney was so accommodating! It was so wonderful to see Sebastian feel like he can go on any ride he wanted. The best part of the day came when we got to go to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. This was AMAZING!! We were transported to another world, it was incredible! Gunner-Pilot Seabass got to fly the Millennium Falcon and meet many characters. This was a definite highlight!  After this incredible day we had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. I was looking forward to this. Our server Gabby was so pleasant. She came back often just to talk to Sebastian. We enjoyed our meal and dessert very much. Sebastian gifted Gabby with a KWN bracelet as well. We ended up back at Disney to enjoy the Water Light Show and the Fireworks. This was such a magical moment and a great way to end the day!

Saturday was another early morning and we couldn’t wait to get to Disneyland! We saved some fun rides for today before we headed back for the other surprise still awaiting Sebastian!! We got back to the hotel in time to do a fun scavenger hunt and a dip in the pool. By 6:00 pm we were at the HONDA CENTER awaiting to be escorted backstage of a WWE event. Sebastian got to meet WWE’s Universal Champion Seth Rollins. He was so kind to Sebastian and talked to him about Star Wars Galaxy’s edge and The Oregon Ducks. He then gifted him with an autographed WWE picture book, two T-shirts, and wrist wraps. Sebastian in return gifted him with a handcrafted T-shirt and also a stuffed Hero bear and a KWN bracelet for the Women’s champ Becky Lynch. Becky then made sure Sebastian got a gift from her as well. This whole evening was incredible!! We got seated in the front row and he was more than willing to scream and cheer for his favorite wrestlers!!
