BOONE, N.C. (May 2019): Joshua has a seizure disorder, and also additional conditions that limit him from participating in various activities. His happy place is being out in nature and fishing. “I’m so glad he wants to be involved with a sport that he can do and enjoy,” said his mom Mary. Kids Wish Network made his dream come true, giving him a trout fishing expedition that wasn’t just another fish tale.
Kids Wish Network purchased his fishing gear from Zebco, and his picturesque half-day fishing excursion with High Country Guide Service in Boone. Joshua brought his new pole, tackle box, fishing caddy and net to his wish in the great outdoors. He and his family put on their fishing waders and began their adventure in the streams. “I loved how the guides interacted with him,” said his mom. “They worked with him one-on-one. There was so much fun and laughter, especially when Joshua caught a fish.” After his big catch, he was taught how to properly release the trout back into the water. His guide also kindly gifted him a fly fishing lure for his tackle box.
Joshua loves talking about his fishing adventure, and is inspired to continue learning new techniques. “He’s happier since his wish,” said his mom. “He also now has other goals that he wants to accomplish.”
Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai said, “So many of our Wish Kids have physical limitations, and we’re so happy to immerse them in activities that focus on what they can do, bringing them a great sense of pride and so much happiness.”
