Andres, age 4, was riding in a car with his family, when he became a victim of a road rage shooting. Two bullets were fired at their vehicle, and one was shot just below the “Baby on Board” sign in the back of the SUV where Andres was sitting. The bullet shattered Andres’ hip bone, and lacerated his kidney and liver. It was extremely painful. Andres was treated at Wesley Children’s Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, and underwent an exploratory laparotomy, the removal of the bullet, and the repair of his diaphragm, liver and kidney lacerations. He also went through pain management and physical therapy to get him through debilitating challenges and help him walk again. Andres was very brave with all of his treatments and uncertainties. The experience has been very traumatic and life-changing for Andres’ family.
