ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 2019): Gibson Barkdull loves Disney, and always wanted to visit Disneyland in California. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, made Gibson’s dream come true flying him and his family to Anaheim, California to experience the magic of Disney. They stayed at the lovely Sheraton Park Anaheim Resort. The general manager greeted them as they arrived, and even had their room decorated with balloons and gifts.
Gibson suffers from congenital adrenal hyperplasia, a group of rare autosomal recessive disorders that is characterized by a deficiency of one of the enzymes needed to make specific hormones. Gibson also suffers from a growth hormone deficiency that causes his body to produce inadequate levels of growth hormones.
He spent his time at Disneyland riding as many rides as he could and meeting all his favorite characters. He especially liked riding Gadgets Go Coaster and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. His favorite part of the trip was when he got to meet Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear from the movie Toy Story. After his first day at Disney, he and his family enjoyed dinner at Tony Roma’s. The family loved their dinner, and were surprised when their server gave Gibson a cute stuffed Woody toy that he loved and carried it with him throughout his wish. After his second exciting day at Disney Gibson and his family were treated to a delicious dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Gibson loved his special Disney Wish, and has tons of awesome memories to look back on. As he was leaving the hotel, Gibson gave the general manager a big hug to say thank you before flying back home.
“It was a pleasure to provide Gibson with his wish and we hope he and his parents cherish all the memories they made during their wish,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
