CARIBBEAN ISLANDS (February 2019): Joey Brady loves swimming, The Cat in the Hat, and candy. His only wish was to swim in a very big pool. Joey’s wish was revealed to him and sponsored by Kids Wish Network board member Andrew Gottlieb, after being nominated Hero of the Month by Joe DiMaggio Hospital. Joey was ecstatic when he learned about his wish trip to go on a 6-day Carnival cruise. This was the first time Joey or his mom had been on a cruise, and Joey couldn’t wait until his special day.
Joey’s wish began as the Carnival cruise ship set sail out of Miami, Florida. The Carnival crew made Joey and his mom feel right at home the moment they stepped onto the boat. “The customer service desk was outstanding! They made sure Joey and I were ok getting on and off the boat,” said Joey’s mom Kalianne. Joey suffers from cerebral palsy, which makes it impossible for him to stand or walk independently, and he requires constant supervision.
Joey and his mom settled into their cabins and were greeted by towel animals and more candy than Joey had ever seen. During his time at sea, Joey swam in the ship’s pool and loved lounging in the hot tub. Not only did Joey get to swim in the awesome pool aboard the ship, but he also went to the Ocean World water park in the Dominican Republic and played in the Kid Splashers Water Park in Atlantis. One of Joey’s favorite parts of swimming was going down all the fun water slides.
Joey’s favorite part about the cruise was the arcade. He spent hours playing tons of fun arcade games, with Joey’s favorite being Jurassic Park. He also hung out with the ships entertainment director and entered a dance competition which he won, and he also participated in a Dr. Seuss stage show. To top off Joey’s fantastic trip, he got to make his very own stuffed Cat in the Hat at Build-A-Bear Workshop. He was even surprised with a delicious cake from the dining room crew as a sweet addition to his wonderful wish.
“We work hard to create wishes for sick children that will bring joy and excitement into their lives and inspire them to try things they have never done,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
