“Madison is very cooperative despite large amounts of pain. She is very tough and brave.”
Madison arrived at the hospital coughing up blood with a high fever. At first doctors didn’t know what was wrong and so precautions were taken to prevent the potential spread of her symptoms to other patients. When she arrived in the hospital, Madison had to have X-rays taken and was put on an IV drip. She also had to have a PICC line inserted into a vein to draw blood and a bronchoscopy that allowed her doctors to examine her airways.
Not long after being admitted to the hospital, Madison was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, a group of diseases that injure the part of the kidney that filters blood, preventing it from getting rid of wastes and extra fluid in the body.
In total, Madison had to have a minimum of six procedures over the span of several weeks and was put on oxygen and medication to help her deal with the pain. Madison has been positive and brave during her procedures and continues to be very active in her care plan.
It is with great pride that we honor Madison’s courage and positivity by acknowledging her as a Kids Wish Network and Wesley Children’s Hospital Hero of the month. Congratulations Madison!
