ORLANDO, Fla. (February 2019): Phillip Neal Jr. loves donuts, theme parks, and wants be a police officer when he grows up. He has always wanted to visit a bunch of Florida theme parks including Disney and Universal Studios. Phillip had his wish revealed at Dunkin Donuts in Palm Coast, Florida with Sheriff Rick Staly. Officer Staly made Phillip an honorary deputy, and gave him a big box of donuts. But the real surprise was a small card inside the box revealing to Phillip that Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, was sending him theme park hopping at Disney World. Phillip suffers from cerebral palsy and had a stroke at birth which added to his medical complications.
Phillip and his family stayed at the Hilton Orlando at Bonnet Creek where they had two luxurious rooms connected by a parlor. Their rooms were close enough to Magic Kingdom that they could see the fireworks every night. The hotel staff was waiting for Phillip with another box of donuts and a poster of Spiderman signed by the staff. The hotel even had a reserved parking spot right outside the hotel just for Phillip and his family. “My favorite part was the Mickey Mouse pancakes every morning,” said Phillip.
The first park they went to was Universal Studios. Phillip had a blast and loved seeing all his favorite superheroes and going on the exciting rides. After Universal, they visited Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Phillip loved meeting all the characters, especially his favorite Goofy. At the Magic Kingdom they made sure to see the parade and go on plenty of rides. That night they were invited to dine at Homecomin’ Kitchen. Phillip had a blast at Animal Kingdom, earning animal badges in the Disney book they provided him. He especially loved seeing the monkeys and hippos.
Throughout his Disney adventure Phillip and his family had delicious dinners at Chevy’s Fresh Mex, Café Tu Tu Tango and Kings Bowl – Orlando.
“It was a joy to get the assistance of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office to help encourage Phillip to follow his dreams,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai.
