Even though Bently lives in Orlando, he was never able to visit Disney… His life revolves around his struggle with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that forms in certain types of nerve tissue. Bently has undergone surgery, chemotherapy, stem cell implants and immunotherapy. During a brief window between treatments, Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, planned a special Disney wish, also making sure he didn’t LEGO of happiness.
Bently and his family stayed at the beautiful Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. They were warmly welcomed by hotel staff who went above and beyond to fill Bently’s days with smiles. Michelle Rankin, Executive Assistant to the General Manager, asked Kids Wish Network about his interests before his arrival. She learned that he was saddened about his favorite toy breaking – his prized gumball machine. Michelle graciously surprised him with a new one. He also received a gift basket from the Disney Store. His family enjoyed a spacious suite.
Bently loved the character breakfast at the resort’s Lakeview Restaurant… he was thrilled meeting Minnie Mouse and Goofy. Then they were on their way to Disney! But before entering the park, Bently wasn’t feeling well, and it was clear he needed to rest. It was such a disappointment, and since he felt sick throughout the day, they were also unable to attend their planned dinner at Shula’s Steak House. The hotel made sure to keep Bently’s spirits up, providing him with a cabana by the pool, and arranging a special visit from his favorite character Spiderman.
During his wish, the family dined at the resort’s signature restaurant La Luce. The restaurant staff went out of their way to make their dining experience extraordinary. Bently and his brother even got a lesson in pizza making and created their own pizzas. The following day, the family also enjoyed a memorable dinner at Seasons 52. Even though Bently wasn’t well enough to visit any of the Disney parks, his mom Christina said the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek made Bently’s wish phenemonal.
Months later, Bently’s mom contacted us with sad news. Bently’s health was quickly declining, and he was only given a few months to live. Kids Wish Network arranged for them to visit LEGOLAND… he was so excited that he finally got to go to a theme park! His family had a very special time together, and Bently also enjoyed a special Master Model Builder Session at the LEGOLAND Hotel.
Update: Sadly, Bently has since lost his battle with cancer. Our hearts are saddened, and we’re so honored that we were able to give Bently his special wish, creating meaningful moments with his family.
