“My wish really did come true!”
Mackenzie suffers from a life-threatening autoimmune disease. Mackenzie enjoys sports and she especially loves soccer. Her favorite team is the Sporting KC soccer team and her favorite player is number 7 Johnny Russell. It was Mackenzie’s dream to meet the players on the Sporting KC soccer team and attend a live match. Kids Wish Network strapped on their cleats and stepped out onto the pitch for Mackenzie, sending her to a live Sporting KC game against LAFC.
Mackenzie’s wish began a few days before the big game, as she and her family attended the Sporting KC training session before match day. Mackenzie was ecstatic to watch her favorite team’s training session. She got to meet each player, including her favorite Johnny Russell who also plays for the Scottish National Team. Mackenzie got to take pictures with various teammates and had everyone on the team sign her soccer ball. Mackenzie loved every second she spent with them. After an exclusive meeting with the Sporting KC soccer team, Mackenzie and her family had a delicious dinner at the Redrock Canyon Grill.
Mackenzie spent the next part of her wish shopping at the Legends Outlet Center. Mackenzie received a mall gift card, Dave and Buster’s power cards, and movie passes to AMC theatres. Mackenzie had a great time on her relaxing day of shopping and arcade games. Mackenzie and her family even received tickets to the Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City, to be used at their leisure. They also received gift cards to Bread and Butter Concepts and Jack Steak BBQ to use for their dinner that night.
For the last part of her wish, Mackenzie attended the Sporting KC match against Western Conference foe LAFC. Mackenzie was ecstatic about this part of the wish and was nominated as the guest of honor, sitting in a special seat and having her name appear on the jumbotron. The crowd and members of the KC Cauldron even started chanting her name before the match began. Mackenzie felt so special receiving all the extra attention. To top off her wonderful wish, Sporting KC won the game (2-1) and would be heading to the playoffs. Mackenzie had a fantastic time on her wish and left the game with two signed soccer balls, a jersey, scarf, and a gift card for her to buy more soccer merchandise.
“My wish really did come true,” Mackenzie said. “It was truly above everything I could have imagined,” said Mackenzie’s mom Sara.
