“Just having a week of one-on-one time with Coen was so special. It was a stress-free time and was out of this world. It’s something that we wouldn’t have been able to do without the wish.”
Coen was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis when she was only two years old. A few years later, Coen’s parents noticed she was frequently developing rashes and blisters, and was having trouble getting in and out of the car. She was then diagnosed with juvenile dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disease that attacks her muscles and skin. The disease causes her muscles to ache, and causes weakness throughout her body. The disease also causes frequent rashes that cause painful blistering on her face, knuckles, elbows and knees. Along with this diagnosis, doctors discovered Coen had a complication with her heart, and was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect which required open-heart surgery.
Coen loves animals, and wants to be a vet when she gets older. Because of her illness, Coen has to take a plethora of medication every day, and has to receive routine injections and monthly infusions. Coen also has to deal with adversity at school as many of her friends don’t understand what she goes through.
Coen wished for a magical Disney experience – Kids Wish Network made her dream come true.
The first night, Coen and her family watched a dazzling firework show at Magic Kingdom. Over the following days, Coen and her family enjoyed many Disney parks. Coen even got to see a Frozen themed sing-a-long in Hollywood Studios. “The joy on her face and in her eyes was priceless,” said Coen’s mom Kelly. “It was the best part of the trip for me.” Coen also got to meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy as well as her favorite Disney princess Rapunzel. “She had the best time,” said her mom Kelly.
Throughout their stay, Coen and her family enjoyed meals at different restaurants including The House of Blues, Café Tu Tu Tango, and were also invited for lunch at Burger 21.
The last day of Coen’s wish, her family went to Sugar Divas Cakery for an extra special treat. When she arrived, Coen was presented with a large frosted cake specifically designed for her and her special trip.
