LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 2018): Wish Kid Michael was born with hydrocephalus and Chiari malformation. Even though he’s already undergone 7 brain surgeries and 2 additional procedures, he still suffers with severe headaches. Michael has been through so much with his health, and when he grows up, wants to be a nurse to help other kids. Michael finds his happiness watching his favorite baseball team the Los Angeles Angels, and is especially inspired by player Mike Trout. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life threatening illnesses, went to bat for Michael, further inspiring his love of baseball.
Michael was immersed in his favorite pastime, having a VIP baseball experience with the Los Angeles Angels. He went on the field to watch the team’s batting practice, stood in the player’s exclusive guest section, got photos with members of the team, toured the dugout, and took swings with Albert Pujol’s bat. Michael and his family also enjoyed behind the scenes privileges touring the indoor batting cages where players practice before and during the game, and watched Albert Pujol and Andrelton Simmons warmup.
And then it happened… he was face to face with Mike Trout. Michael was thrilled having special time with his baseball idol. Mike Trout spoke with Michael, took pictures together and signed all of Michael’s favorite items in his baseball collection. “He signed a bunch of items for him to last a lifetime,” said Angels Baseball public relations Katie Davidson.
Afterward, the family was seated behind the Angels dugout to watch the game. “Katie made sure we had a great time,” said Michael’s mom Crystal.
During the wish, the family also made magical memories at Disneyland and having lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. “I haven’t seen as many genuine smiles from Michael and his siblings as I did while we all enjoyed a meal together,” said his mom.
Michael was given special treatment throughout his wish. All of his amazing experiences brought him great happiness. His mom said, “Michael’s been in better spirits since his wish and made great memories.”
“We’re thrilled that Michael got to experience what he’s most passionate about,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai. “The happiness that a wish creates for a sick child is very special and continues long after it comes true.”
