When Jaxson was a toddler, signs of his illness were already surfacing. His ears were noticeably swollen, and he had a series of infections. His doctor took a biopsy, and testing revealed he had swollen cartilage and inflammation. Over time, Jaxson’s symptoms worsened… he had a chronic cough, difficulty breathing, daily headaches and severe joint pain. Jaxson has relapsing polycondritis, a multi-systematic condition with repeated episodes of inflammation and deterioration of cartilage. Treatment included medications and shots every 2 weeks. Even with Jaxson’s regimen, one day his voice became raspy and his throat was closing off. He was taken to the hospital where they discovered he had pneumonia. He was treated there for several days.
Jaxson still requires shots, and is unable to participate in most physical activities – strenuous exertion causes him additional pain. Jaxson is now 5, and it’s tough feeling left out when his friends and classmates are playing sports.
He loves playing video games, building LEGO sets, collecting cars and watching Paw Patrol. If Jaxson could give a gift to anyone, he would get his mommy flowers. He wishes for fun times with his family.
