“My favorite part of the wish was meeting Chris Colfer. I loved being able to talk with him one-on-one.”
Right after birth, nurses noticed that Danielle had an arch in her back. A few hours later, they also observed that her eyes were rolling into the back of her head, and it was discovered that Danielle had a stroke while still in her mother’s womb. Danielle was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone, or posture, as well as epilepsy, a disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures. Childhood has been tough for Danielle. She’s had four surgeries on her left foot and hip, and has minimal use of her left hand. Danielle takes multiple medications daily to prevent future seizures and for other ailments of her conditions, but they make her feel lethargic and worn out. Since noisy environments can trigger seizures, she’s also been unable to participate in many school activities and functions.
Danielle is fun, resilient and smart. She excels in drawing and writing, and has even enjoyed writing her own novel as a creative outlet. Danielle also collects pennies, and still loves watching the television show Glee, being a huge fan of actor and author Chris Colfer. Just like the characters in Danielle’s favorite show, Kids Wish Network perfectly harmonized all of her favorite things, creating an amazing once in a lifetime wish.
Danielle and her mom had a great night’s rest at the beautiful DoubleTree by Hilton. The following morning, they were flown by Kids Wish Network to New York to begin her much anticipated dream coming true. Danielle and her mom felt like celebrities being picked up at the airport in a luxurious town car by U.S. Limousine Service. They were chauffeured to the modern and spacious Millennium Hilton New York Downtown, for their night’s accommodations with stunning city views.
Dinner was rockin’ with a memorable dining experience at the trendy Hard Rock Café. “Everyone at the Hard Rock was wonderful,” said Danielle’s mom Lori. “The behind the scenes tour and merchandise were great. She wears her Hard Rock hat and T-shirt a lot!”
The following day, special elements of her wish continued. She and her mom were once again escorted by U.S. Limousine Service, this time in an SUV, to a fun and delicious lunch at the Shake Shack. After lunch, Danielle experienced her most gleeful moment. She and her mom were chauffeured to Barnes and Noble, where Danielle met Chris Colfer at a book signing for his new novel “The Land of Stories: Worlds Collide.” “My favorite part of the wish was meeting Chris Colfer,” said Danielle. “I loved being able to talk with him one-on-one.”
For Danielle’s mom, her most special memory was seeing her daughter so happy. She said that since the wish, Danielle is happier and feeling inspired to write. “She has been reading all of Chris Colfer’s books and is back to writing her stories,” said her mom. “She really wants to pursue a career in writing.”
