When Kaylee was little, she experienced seizures, was losing weight and would tire easily. After testing, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas produces little to no insulin. Growing up, she was petite and slow to go through puberty. Further testing revealed that she also had Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, a condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid. The thyroid gland is part of the endocrine system which produces hormones that coordinate many of the body’s functions. Additionally, Kaylee has Addison’s disease, a long-term endocrine disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones. Symptoms usually come on gradually and may include abdominal pain, weakness, and weight loss. Darkening of the skin in certain areas may also occur. Kaylee takes medications each day to help control all of her conditions.
Kaylee enjoys studying chemistry and aspires to be a scientist. She also loves the color pink, reading, watching movies and shopping.
