Chase started not feeling well, and his health didn’t improve even after taking antibiotics. His mom thought that his asthma was causing issues with his breathing, so she decided to take him to the emergency room. He was given steroids, a breathing treatment, and also had an x-ray done of his chest. Chase had pneumonia, and when they started preparing him for an IV treatment, he started turning blue. He had to be revived twice, and was put on a ventilator and airlifted to a children’s hospital. After a CT scan, they found a 12 cm mass and performed a biopsy, which confirmed that he had T-cell acute lymphoblastic lymphoma. This condition occurs when white blood cells called lymphocytes become abnormal and grow in an uncontrolled way. Symptoms can include loss of appetite, weight loss, lethargy and high body temperatures. Chase remained on a ventilator for 12 days, and after being immobile, had to have physical therapy to learn how to walk again. He currently undergoes chemotherapy treatments and is given an oral chemo medication daily.
Chase is sweet and caring, and always enjoys sharing what he has with others. He loves playing video games and basketball. Chase aspires to be like his favorite basketball player Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
