“There are kids much worse off than me”
Quentin was the kind of kid that loved school and would never miss a day. He started to complain about daily headaches, but passed it off as seasonal allergies. But then, Quentin was too sick to go to school. A CAT scan gave the devastating reason for the headaches. Quentin had a brain tumor, and surgery was needed. At the time, his father was deployed. The surgery was held for a few days so his dad could be at his side. Biopsy of the tumor led to the diagnosis of posterior fossa ependymoma, tumors that develop from abnormal cell growth, and treatment was radiation five days a week for more than a month.
Six weeks later, Quentin was antsy to get back to school. Seen by many as a natural leader, Quentin’s goal in life is a career in public service, and with all his extracurricular activities, he is working hard towards it. Quentin has also had his eye on Colorado for some skiing and sightseeing.
Kids Wish Network granted Quentin’s wish and flew him and his family from Michigan to Colorado, which prides itself on its spectacular resorts and abundance of snow and snow-related activities. There, the family enjoyed an action packed four-night stay at The Lodge at Vail.
The first morning was a great start to Quentin’s wish. Vail Ski Butlers Ski Rental, a company that brings all skiing and snowboarding equipment needs straight to your location, brought straight to his hotel all of the equipment Quentin needed to snowboard. Quentin was fitted for his snowboard and put all of his gear on without ever needing to walk out the doors. Once he was ready to go snowboarding, he walked out of his hotel and right onto the chair lift to head to the top of the mountain.
Also during his first day on the slopes, Quentin had brunch at the very cozy Vintage restaurant followed by his very own private snowboarding lessons compliments of The Lodge at Vail. After tearing up the slopes on the second day of his wish, Quentin took a break and enjoyed an amazing dinner at Blue Moose Pizza. On his final long and fun-filled day, Quentin and his family enjoyed dinner at the delicious and convenient slope side Vail Chophouse.
From lodging to lift tickets and media coverage to private lessons, The Lodge at Vail has been nothing but fantastic in helping with this once-in-a-lifetime experience for Quentin and his family! Quentin said there were no words to describe what a wonderful experience his rocky mountain wish trip was and what it meant for his family to be together, simply enjoying each other’s company.
