Catherine is Recognized as Kids Wish Network and YWCA Alaska’s Hero of the Month

“Catherine found the power within herself…”

Catherine spent her childhood years moving from one rural Alaskan village to the next. She quickly learned what it was like to be different. Coming from one of the only non-Native families in the small village, Catherine experienced name-calling and bullying from older students, crushing her self-confidence and well-being.

Rather than allow this experience to make her angry or bitter, Catherine applied the feeling of being an outsider to instead stand up against the bullying behavior of others. She has always volunteered at school and in her community, where she no longer feels like an outsider. She tries to do the right thing, even when it may not be the popular choice. Described as a “leader”, Catherine is determined to “create a world where racism doesn’t exist, men and women are equal, and peace, justice, and freedom are for everyone”.

It is with great pride that we honor Catherine’s bravery by recognizing her as Kids Wish Network’s along with the YWCA Alaska as a Hero of the Month. Congratulations, Catherine!
