“She was brave throughout all of the procedures and during her hospital experience”
The statistics are staggering: one in every 15 Americans will experience appendicitis which usually guarantees that the doctor will call for emergency surgery to remove the appendix. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed. No one has ever been able to fully determine the purpose of the appendix within our bodies, but fortunately, doctors say that if it is must be removed, we will still be able to have full and healthy lives.
Young Alison experienced this very sudden and incredibly painful occurrence recently, and by the time she got to the hospital, her appendix had burst. This can be especially dangerous as it will begin to leak bacteria into the abdomen and cause serious life threatening conditions.
Alison was very brave during her entire eight day stay at Maimonides Medical Center. Her smart and funny personality lit up the room. Even though she endured incredible pain after her surgery, she worked very hard to keep her mind focused on other activities. “Alison made every effort to participate in recreational activities” said child life specialist Alexis. “Even when she was in pain and crying, she wanted to play games and make art projects to take her mind off the pain. She was brave throughout all of the procedures and during her hospital experience.”
It is with great pride that we honor Alison’s bravery by recognizing her as Kids Wish Network’s along with the Maimonides Medical Center Hero of the Month. Congratulations, Alison!
