Holiday, FL. (September 30, 2016): Children’s charity Kids Wish Network recently partnered with Chef Robert Irvine to grant the wish of a young man from Florida who wanted to meet his idol, Chef Robert Irvine, and sent Emmanuel “Manny” Encarnacion to California to attend the Chef’s first step into the “talk show” realm with The Robert Irvine Show. The wish continued in Florida near Manny’s hometown.
Kids Wish Network initially sought Irvine’s help in granting Manny’s wish of meeting the chef to share their mutual love of cooking. Irvine has appeared on and hosted a variety of Food Network programs including Dinner:Impossible, Worst Cooks in America, Restaurant: Impossible, and Chopped: Impossible.
During the wish in California, Chef Irvine, upon learning Manny was from Florida, invited the young man to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida, to meet once again, this time in the cooking arena.
During his 90 minute cooking demonstration at the Celebrity Kitchen segment of the festival, Chef Irvine invited Manny on stage, where under Irvine’s direction he prepared several sophisticated dishes – seared diver scallops, porcini mushroom cannelloni, warm swiss chard and butternut salad with celery root puree and apple cider – fulfilling Manny’s ultimate dream of actually cooking with and learning at the side of the famous chef.
“It was great fun catching up with Manny again,” said Chef Irvine. “It was great working with Kids Wish Network to help make an impact on someone’s life.”
“Through the kindness of Chef Irvine, Manny was not only granted a once in a lifetime experience, but Chef extended it to a second meeting between the two of them,” said Anna Lanzatella, executive director for the children’s charity. “The generosity of time and knowledge Chef was willing to offer Manny made for a memory to last a lifetime, certainly making a difference in this young man’s life.”
Manny has faced years of brain surgery after being diagnosed with Chiari malformation, the extension of brain tissue into the spinal canal and Pseudotumor Cerebri, a condition that occurs when one’s brain creates excess fluid thinking there is the presence of a tumor. His wish has made a difference in his hopes to become a chef himself one day.
Robert Irvine is part of a long list of celebrities who have supported Kids Wish Network in making come true the heartfelt wishes of children facing life-threatening wishes.
