HOLIDAY, Fla. (July 2016): National children’s charity Kids Wish Network (KWN) recently launched its CLASS program at Seven Springs Middle School in Pasco County, Florida. As part of KWN’s CLASS program, the students in the school’s “Lead the Pack” service learning classes had the opportunity to help sponsor the wishes of two children with life-threatening illnesses.
The name CLASS is an acronym for Creating Laughter And Spreading Smiles. It stems from KWN’s overall mission to bring hope and joy to sick children. The CLASS program supports a school district’s curriculum and educational priorities through an emphasis on reading, writing, math, and team-building skills, while teaching the basics of philanthropy and the importance of giving back to the community.
“Lead the Pack” raised money to benefit Kids Wish Network to facilitate once in a lifetime experiences for its KWN’s Wish Kids Carlos and Jenna. Through their own fundraising efforts, the students were able to make a very generous contribution towards turning Carlos and Jenna’s dreams into realities.
“My students voted to participate [in the CLASS program] because they related to Carlos and Jenna’s story. Kids Wish Network allowed our students to walk in another’s shoes and show support for a medical need. My classes learned a pocket full of change can make a wish come true when multiplied by a team,” said Dorothy Taylor, Seven Springs service learning instructor.
“Our CLASS program is designed to encourage philanthropy and compassion in school children. The fact that the students in the ‘Lead the Pack’ classes voted to support our Wish Kids through this program showed that it can be an important team-building project for other schools,” said Anna Lanzatella, executive director of Kids Wish Network.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the “Lead the Pack” service learning classes at Seven Springs Middle School and the following sponsors for their support of the CLASS program: Sam’s Pizza, Amore’s Fresh Slice Pizza, Save A Lot, and Wal-Mart Store #994 in New Port Richey. “We are so proud of both the children’s and the community’s commitment and support of this program,” said Lanzatella.
