At a very young age, Madison was drinking more water than usual and not feeling quite herself. Her family thought it best to take her in for a doctor visit where tests were run. Tests showed that Madison’s sugar levels were not within normal ranges, and she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease with little or no production of insulin, a hormone needed to allow energy into the body’s cells, and has no cure. Because Madison had difficulty keeping her sugar levels under control throughout diagnosis, she was eventually put on an insulin pump to regulate her illness. She must check her levels up to ten times a day.
Madison’s family describes her as a silly, funny girl who remains brave throughout her everyday life. She is independent, intelligent, and self-aware. Madison enjoys school and is described as a bit of a perfectionist who aims to please and get good grades. Madison likes to camp, swim, and spend time with her dog Finnegan and cat Bella. Madison loves Disney movies and hopes to visit Walt Disney World someday to see some of her favorite characters in person!
