MacAdrian, affectionately nicknamed “Mackie,” was only two years old when she started displaying symptoms for what her parents would later learn was type 1 diabetes. At one point, her glucose level was a startling 526, more than twice the norm. It took two days to normalize her blood sugar levels and another six days in the hospital being monitored as her parents learned how to care for their daughter’s life-long condition. Mackie has been participating in two research studies for a new long-lasting insulin and an emergency glucose inhalant for low blood sugar to prevent diabetics from passing out.
Mackie is a spunky ball of fire with the red hair to match. She has a take charge attitude and a wild imagination. Mackie loves princesses, mermaids, fairies and pink unicorns.
Kids Wish Network knows one of the best places to see princesses, so we sent Mackie and family to Disney World where home base was Calypso Cay, located conveniently for easy access to the Disney parks. The family was able to attend the attractions of I-Drive 360 which include the 400 foot high Orlando Eye, Sea Life Aquarium, and Madame Tussauds, compliments of Merlin’s Magic Wand. They enjoyed dinners at CiCi’s Pizza, Portobello – an eatery reminiscent of the Italian countryside – and the Bahama Breeze Island Grill. It was there that a special visitor dropped by to see MacAdrian – “Ariel” from TuTu Tales.
