HONOLULU (March 17, 2016): Children’s charity Kids Wish Network (KWN) is pleased to recognize Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children as one of its 2015 Honored Hero Facility. Kapi’olani receives this distinguished recognition for its staff of child life specialists’ strong commitment to KWN’s Hero of the Month program. Through the Hero of the Month program Kids Wish Network partners with hospitals and other childcare facilities across the country to honor kids who have endured some of life’s most challenging obstacles.
This honor is awarded on a quarterly basis to the Hero facility that has gone above and beyond to rejoice in these children’s brave perseverance by making their hospital stays safe, effective, and positive experiences.
“My team was ecstatic to hear that we had been recognized as the honored Hero hospital,” said Kapi’olani Child Life Specialist Megan Yee.
The recipients of the Hero of the Month award are pediatric patients that have encountered life-altering circumstances and courageously triumphed over their hardships. Recognizing these children’s resilience and their dedicated efforts towards recovery helps build their confidence levels, further inspiring them to keep fighting.
Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children has nominated over 100 Heroes through the program. Heroes nominated from Kapiolani have faced everything from septic shock and cardiac arrest to inflammation of the brain and life-saving surgeries. The hospital delivers the highest quality of care to patients throughout Hawaii and the Pacific Region.
“KWN is proud to partner with Kapi’olani, a facility widely known as Hawaii’s leader in the care of children. We work towards a common goal of improving the quality of life for sick children,” says Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella.
